Porcelain onlays are  more durable than composite white fillings, and look more like tooth enamel, but it takes longer to do a porcelain filling.

Compared to metal amalgam fillings, porcelain is far more attractive and natural-looking. It also strengthens the tooth, as it is bonded to the tooth and holds it together strongly. On the other hand, metal fillings are not bonded; they’re packed into the cavity very tightly, so as not to fall out. And being metal, they expand and contract with each hot or cold item we put in our mouths. This exerts repeated pressure outwards on the tooth, causing eventual fractures.

An expertly-placed porcelain filling can fill areas that were decayed and seal the connection between tooth and filling. This preserves your beautiful, seamless smile.

The procedure

Dr. Doolin or Dr. Haddad can place your porcelain filling in just two easy visits.

• First, the area of decay is removed
• An impression of your tooth is taken and sent to our ceramist.
• Our ceramist creates your porcelain filling from that impression, or mold, doing an entirely custom job
• During a second visit your filling is fitted in, adjusted, and bonded in place

The strength and integrity of your original tooth is now restored. and your porcelain filling can last many years with  good dental hygiene habits.
