Have you lost one or more teeth? Are your teeth unhealthy and you feel–or have been told–that you may need to have them removed and replaced with dental implants? If so, then it’s important to carefully consider the dentist you want performing your dental implant procedure.
If your dental implant procedure is likely to be a complex one, it’s especially important that you choose a dentist with the training and experience to handle your case. This will give you the best chance of success.
What Makes a Case Complex?
So how do you know that you have a complex dental implant case? There are several indicators that your case isn’t the average dental implant case. These include:
- Bite problems like TMJ
- Overbite, underbite or other malocclusions
- Prior poor dental health, such as abscessed teeth or gum disease
- Prolonged denture wear
- Health conditions like osteoporosis or diabetes
- Demand for high function or attractiveness
Basically, these characteristics fall into increased challenges for proper handling three different elements of the dental implant procedure: managing your bite and occlusion, managing bone and soft tissue around the implant, or providing the final implant restorations.
Dr. Kurt A. Doolin’s Training and Experience Sets Him Apart
Dr. Doolin has the unique advantage of beginning his practice about the time that modern dental implants were appearing. As such, he was able to train with some of the world’s foremost dental pioneers, including Dr. Carl E. Misch. Dr. Doolin trained with the Dr. Misch in 1991. And in 1992, Dr. Doolin completed a Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Since then, he has continued to receive advanced training in dental implant techniques, including training from Nobel Biocare on the use of CT scans and 3-D diagnostic software to plan dental implant procedures so they are able to be highly accurate and lead to the best results for bone and soft tissue healing.
Dr. Doolin’s training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI) includes detailed study in bite science: the use of neuromuscular dentistry to diagnose bite problems and design proper solutions. It also includes the study of cosmetic dentistry: achieving the most attractive results in any dental procedure, including complex reconstructive cases.
Dr. Doolin has been able to apply the lessons of these advanced training courses over the past quarter century, and in that time he has learned some lessons that only experience can teach, making him even more capable of handling these complex cases.
And he has added the benefit of two younger but highly talented dentists at his practice, Dr. Jeffrey S. Haddad and Dr. Marco L. Tironi. Their additional training and unique insight help make our practice even more capable of handling even the most challenging dental implant cases.
