What Is All-on-4?
All-on-4 is an intelligent approach to replacing an entire arch of teeth using just four dental implants. You’ll get a bridge or prosthesis that attaches to your dental implants. This is your tooth replacement, and it’s sometimes called an implant denture.
With careful evaluation of the jawbone, researchers developed a way to maximize the contact between dental implants and bone, even in people who have gum disease or have been using dentures for years. This ensures that dental implants have enough support for replacement teeth. The replacement teeth can be either fully fixed or removable, and you can choose from a variety of materials, allowing you to get the results you want.
Benefits of All-on-4
All-on-4 has become a prevalent procedure because it offers many benefits, including:
- Replace an entire arch of teeth in one procedure
- Get replacement teeth on the day of surgery
- No need for a bone graft in most cases
- High success rate
- Fully functional teeth
- Attractive smile
- Numerous options for the final restoration
- Long-lasting restorations
- Cost-effective treatment
With the All-on-4 treatment facilitated by our practice, you can replace an entire arch of teeth through a coordinated procedure, often allowing for teeth replacement on the same day as your surgery. Our role is to ensure seamless care integration so you are never without support. Most people don’t need a bone graft with All-on-4, so that’s another surgery you don’t need for this procedure.
The results of All-on-4 are good. The dental implant success rate is as good as or better than single implants. About 98% of implants are successful, and almost 100% of dental bridges are initially successful. You’ll get fully functional teeth that look attractive. You can choose whether you want ceramic or acrylic teeth for your final restoration. You can also decide whether you want your final restoration to be removable or fixed.
All dental implants can last a lifetime, but the restoration (crown or bridge) might not. With All-on-4, studies that are nearly 20 years long showed that about 99% of All-on-4 restorations survived.
All-on-4 is also a relatively cost-effective approach to dental implants. You save money because you have few implants, don’t need a bone graft, and can choose cost-saving options for your bridge.
The All-on-4 Procedure
While we do not perform the All-on-4 procedure in-house, we facilitate this treatment by working with trusted dental surgeons. The procedure, while similar to the general dental implant procedure, has a few essential differences.
First, during dental implant surgery, your implant dentist will likely need to remove some soft tissue and bone to accommodate the All-on-4 bridge. The bridge is designed to sit in a certain way to ensure it balances forces and can support itself with just four implants.
Also, you will almost always get a temporary or provisional bridge during surgery. Healing caps or buried dental implants are rarely used under your gums for the All-on-4 procedure.
As with the typical dental implant procedure, the surgeon will replace your provisional restoration once your implants are fully healed. The high-quality provisional restoration is solid and functional, and it will likely last longer than necessary. Before it’s time for a replacement, you’ll talk to your implant dentist about the options you want for your final restoration: fixed or removable, acrylic or ceramic, etc. Then, at about six months after surgery, you’ll get your final restoration.
